“Piglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude.”― A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
How are you? It feels like the answer to this question is constantly changing these days, but I figured I’d still ask. I’m doing okay, a little “pandemic fatigued,” but not really too much to complain about. I’m getting very excited about decorating for Christmas at our house, trying to stop myself from buying all things I see in magazines and online. It’s quite tempting!
A Different Kind of Thanksgiving
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, which is usually when my family gets together. As many people as possible pack into my parents’ house. There’s turkey, stuffing, cranberry relish, and all sorts of other deliciously carb-y foods that you’d expect at the table.
But this year, it’s different, of course. Instead of all gathering together, my creative sister gave us all the same bottle of wine and a loaf of homemade bread. Tomorrow, we’ll all gather with our little household pods and eat and drink and be merry, separately. It’ll be pretty strange, but I’m still thankful that we are all well and have the yummy wine and bread to “share.”
Gratitude in the Moment
I’m grateful for so many things, it would be impossible to list them all without forgetting someone or something, so I will refrain from even going there. Let’s just say that right now, as I sit here in the silence, looking at my handsome husband across from me (also working on his computer) and our dog Thelma all curled up on the couch, with the great big ocean out the window (we happen to be spending our holiday on the coast), life is good. I’m happy, satisfied, and glad to be surrounded by so much simple love. And that’s the gift of this moment.
I’m keeping this post simple and sweet, because I know we’ve all got something to do – to spend time with the family we can spend time with, or friends, or on a Zoom or FaceTime call. Whatever you’re doing to celebrate, I sincerely hope that you can take a step back and be grateful for something. Anything. Especially right now when this is unlike any other Thanksgiving.
Black Friday and More
And if you get bored, lonely, or need something to distract you from the fact that you can’t be with all 27 of your cousins, feel free to check out the Black Friday sale I’ve got going on at Bleckley House Gifts. There’s a raffle for a $20 gift card (first 10 orders on Friday November 27 will be entered to win!), 20% off everything, holiday earrings from Indie Design Studio (See photos!) right here in Greenville, and some of the cutest holiday cards around, courtesy of Good Juju Ink in Oakland, California. And don’t forget the precious handmade Christmas ornaments from LIKHA, designed in California and ethically made in the Philippines.
Last but not least, please consider purchasing a candle on Monday, November 30. As part of the Monday Market events with The Stewart Center in Atlanta, a portion of proceeds will go to support their amazing projects like the after school program, housing, and nutrition programs. I’m so grateful that I can support such a great cause!
